Yes of course. Even I didn’t like that Yen used “nigga” so casually, but the point is this is all for entertainment. I’m not gonna cry “cruelty” because Asa is trying to back him up. That’s why I love Asa because she just says what she feels. She also said she would fuck a 13 year old, so lets all get our panties in bunch for that too. If Asa would actually read these comments, and she was afraid to hurt every lil douches feelings, there would be no DVDASA. Same thing with everyone on this show. This is what makes this the greatest podcast in the milky way. They don’t give a fuck about hurting peoples feelings, so they are free to be themselves.

so two things to sum this shit up:

1.) This isn’t an attack towards you Snake Oil. This was just a rant. You don’t need to agree with me. I can respect that people have their own opinions.

2.) I feel like a fucking nerd for commenting so much. I never do this, so kinda weird to see myself becoming “that guy”.

It’s all good, no hurt feelings. I understand your point about it being entertainment too. The Mercury in Retrograde used to get under my skin but now I just laugh it off because this isn’t a science podcast. It’s the number one health podcast! In closing NNNEEEERRRRDDDDD!!!!!

Asa is so so simple on this topic and it’s infuriating. I am willing to bet that she has never casually greeted the partners in her IR scenes by using the N word but she always seems to advocate and encourage the use of it.
She doesn’t seem to get that she can’t reclaim racial slurs that are not associated with her. It’s not her place, it’s not her job and it’s not her duty.
I just can’t believe that to her the ‘most racist thing of all is not being able to use racial slurs’. How privileged and self absorbed do you have to be to think that?

    • harumph<span class="comment-author-location"> from Hayward, CA, United States</span>

Yeah, her opinions on the n-word have been increasingly fucked up and bizarre.
      1. The “most racist thing ever” is that non-black people can’t use the n-word without consequence.
      2. Using the n-word really just shows that you aren’t racist at all.
      3. Calling a Korean “pan faced” is out of bounds and insulting because it’s criticizing their appearance, but saying that somebody has “nigger lips” is just fine.

And she gets so worked up when arguing these idiotic points.

        • ww<span class="comment-author-location"> from Whitestone, NY, United States</span>

Just because Asa is a porn star doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be aware of these issues. Normally Asa does say very intelligent things and contributes very well to conversation, but this time she made a mistake. Even Dave owned up to his mistake of saying the n-word.

In addition, both Bobby Lee and David Choe are not normal and have money. Yet, they said racial slurs are messed up. Like them, Asa is a sensitive artist. You don’t have to be an academic to know what’s messed up. This would be a great chance for Asa to learn. We shouldn’t credit her less just because she makes money from sex.

Maybe some reactions like calling her an idiot are over the top, but can you blame them? Can you blame them for channeling an anger wrought from being called chink or nigger their whole life? To be made to feel like a foreigner, to feel like a stereotype, and to feel uncomfortable in your own skin?

DVDASA is raucous and offensive, but it doesn’t mean we can’t be critical. Part of DVDASA is about cutting the crap and Asa’s comments were pretty much crap (Yen’s too).

    • SlickPrick<span class="comment-author-location"> from Canada</span>

David and Asa have different opinions. In fact, David is calling out Yen for using the word nigga. Dave has said the n-word before, but he realized his mistake after using it in front of Slink.

    • beehappy4430<span class="comment-author-location"> from Highland, CA, United States</span>

DVDASA isn’t about being politically correct. Asa is being honest, if u don’t agree with her and she’s pissing u off then don’t listen. As for me I can’t get enough of Asa she’s the best and I admire her honesty.

Race will always be a problem as long as it’s a problem.

    • ww<span class="comment-author-location"> from Whitestone, NY, United States</span>

What I don’t get is that Asa has said that she is against doing scenes that degrade Asian culture. Calling someone a chink or the n-word definitely degrades that culture. It’s debasing an entire race. If you want to call someone something, just call them an asshole, not a chink or gook.

Also, a black person saying the n-word is different than a nonblack person saying it. They went through the struggle. They can use it. Same for an Asian person saying chink. They grew up being made fun of for their eyes and skin. They can reclaim it. End of the day, racial slurs breed ignorance.

    • Bagholder<span class="comment-author-location"> from Australia</span>

I certainly don’t want to speak for Asa, but I feel like she’s having a hard time articulating her ideas. If I understand her argument, she feels that a word (in this case the “n” word) cannot be utilized by one group of people, at the exclusion of others. For example:
Only white people can use this golf course.
Only white people can use this water fountain.
Only black people can use this word.
If the first 2 statements are racist, thus the 3rd should be as well. I think that logic helps her argument.
Furthermore, she states that its not okay to be hateful with your words.
Both ideas by themselves are true and I think everyone can agree on.
However, this is where the argument breaks down a bit: This one word (the “n” word) contains a level of vitriol that was/is used during a time of hate/oppression/ignorance that existed/exists in current/not so distant history (MLK’s march on DC was only 50 years ago). And by using the “n” word, by extension translates to hate.
It may be that, 500 years from now – the level of hate associated with the word may dissipate and we’ll all laugh about it (i.e. “Can you believe, people weren’t allowed to use a word? because of their race?”)
Remember the show is about breaking down barriers, challenging ideas, and more importantly life and love. Respect the opinions of everyone.
At least, until someone screams “HEY Fuck FACE” at you.

      • harumph<span class="comment-author-location"> from Hayward, CA, United States</span>

That “logic” is Asa-logic. Meaning it’s not logical at all. It’s the type of racial “logic” that requires everyone to erase hundreds and hundreds of years of history from their minds.

And it’s the same Asa-logic that allows her to argue that “pan faced” is hateful, but “nigger lips” or “sand nigger” isn’t.

I think you gays need to make all of your brilliant ideas happen:

1.) DVDASA wedding with phenomenal food. (where all the guys in the group where tuxedoes with butt hole t shirts or some weird shit, and Asa wears a dress made of B Lee’s finger art) You guys can marry the show. I feel like there is a bunch of potential to do some crazy new interesting shit in this idea, just needs to be worked out.

2.) The “DVDASA school of shitty artist, art show” where everyone in the show makes shitty art (but they actually need to try to make good art, but most likely will be shitty since no one is a real artist, except david who kinda is one)

So, Jacuzzi Boy, fat thor, $ mark, pink poon, asa hole, B Trivia, Fuck Face (jk love u bro), Steve Cattle, slink & endo, Heather Hot Dog, and whoever else is a part of the show. Also should print out all Dark Dicks artwork for that show. Maybe even special appearance fro Yoshi, who could make some dark depressing art. Anyways, I think this show would be beyond amazing.

I rarely agree with Asa and today’s episode was no exception. But she did make one good point which has racked my brain for a while. If we are going to say chink, nigger, whop, kike, faggot, retard are all demeaning to the respective groups and should be banished, would it then not follow that we should eliminate words like cunt, bitch, dick, bastard and pussy as they too demean a specific group? What’s the difference?

    • harumph<span class="comment-author-location"> from Hayward, CA, United States</span>

The difference is that your first list is made up of insults directed at specific groups of people who have been historically oppressed/demeaned/disenfranchised/etc. based on race and sexual orientation, and your second list is made up of all purpose insults that are applied to everyone of all races/creeds/religions/etc. You say they demean specific groups, but do they really? Cunt and bitch are debatable on the grounds of sexism, but “dick, bastard and pussy”? Really? Come on. Are people with dicks an oppressed minority now?

      • Bleek<span class="comment-author-location"> from Toronto, ON, Canada</span>

        Thanks for your response.

In terms of your points about dick and bastard, I have to say that just because someone isn’t from a historically disenfranchised group doesn’t mean that they can’t be demeaned. So if our society is trying to be less bullying, it should then follow that all insults that can be seen to marginalize an entire group should be done away whether or not what group they have come from?

By the way, pussy is certainly a backhanded insult against women as the one making the insult is equating a weak man to a woman essentially saying that the dude is less than a man. Can you imagine a world where ‘bitch’ is only used when referring to a female dog?

Yeah, all insults are insulting. No argument from me. All I’m saying is that there is a big difference between calling someone a dick and calling somebody a nigger. One has a history behind it that makes it especially toxic, and the other doesn’t.

I think DVDASA needs an outtro, something like besides the music, that Bobby Triv can end with every episode.

Navigating race with unfamiliar people is always tough. And, while ‘harumph’ does prevail in the racial flamewar above, Asa does read these comments because she does love her fans, and obviously what she said struck a chord.

In the style of the #1 health podcast, DVDASA, everyone should be asking a lot of questions…
    - Will Asa apologize?
    - Is a hood pass just a ‘get outta jail free’ card for dropping the N-word?
    - When does Bobby use the N-word? When does Valentine?
    - If we’re singing a rap song, like Bobby was in the Limelight, should we self-bleep ourselves or just drop the N-word?

Food is one of the most important parts of the wedding. It is gonna be the most discussed and most complained about thing among the guests. Even though the food is not the ‘reason’ you go to weddings, it’s partly the reason since a wedding is basically dinner & dancing. If food wasn’t important than start the reception at 9pm after dinner time. You don’t need fancy food, you need whatever you decide to serve cooked well, whether it’s chicken, noodles, seafood, whatever.

For a gift, bring a busta (pronounced boosta, which is an envelope with money). Where I live it’s usually appropriate to give $100-250 from each person (so $200-500 for a couple) but this varies depending on where you live and how close you are with the couple.

Got uncomfortable with Steve and Bobby a little bit. I still like both of them on DVDASA though. Actually, I think Steve’s presence actually gives a positive ‘Lee Equilibrium’ to the show. If it’s just Bobby, sometimes the fans complain it’s too much, but if it’s Bobby and his brother…it’s just right.
I cringe whenever Yen’s the focus. (He’s a deer in the headlight)
But, I LOL when Dave yells at him.

It’s hard to believe that nobody has mentioned Bobby Lee talking about his girlfriend having an abortion in the intro.

Even harder to believe that they wouldn’t edit that out.

I know he already used his one take back – but you can tell he thought they hadn’t started recording yet, and were still off the record.

Asa asking Steve Lee if he has ever watched a show called Mad TV…

Asa, have you ever watched Mad TV? Steve Lee was on it.
