Erik is representing the guys who struggled to pick up girls because of his looks and talks about the way society values appearance over personality. Yes, he is generalizing to an extent and of course it’s based off his own personal experiences. It’s not like he can be Ryan Gosling for a day. He rejects Asa and Heather’s opinions because they don’t understand his point of view since they were probably attractive the majority of their lives, but all the other guys want to hear his opinions because they have been in these situations before. Erik has many strong points and maybe they’re sexist, but he’s just being straight forward and not sugar coating his opinions.

    • Bojee Nemsenah<span class="comment-author-location"> from Santa Clarita, CA, United States</span>

daveisgay gets it. I was thoroughly entertained. I think comics bring a different energy to the show. Comics make their living off talking. They sometimes have very painful things to talk about. Norton, BLee’s 1st appearance and now Erik Griffin have been some of the best episodes in my opinion. It sucks that other guests and some of the regulars didn’t get much air time but maybe Dave will be smart enough to book comics by themselves from now on.

  • speechless<span class="comment-author-location"> from Virginia Beach, VA, United States</span>

HAHAH dave did NOT like erik griffin putting him in his place. First guest to ever call him out, everyone else just listens.

I wonder what the DVDASA mass text says about him. Asa didn’t like all the sexist stuff he said either

    • JBM101<span class="comment-author-location"> from Dunellen, NJ, United States</span>

it seemed Asa actually agreed with a lot of what Erik had to say, she even invited him back on at the end of the show, which she does not do with people she doesn’t like at all.

it was Heather that didn’t mess with this guy at all, but that was from the beginning, before he even started picking on her.

When Erik talked about his ex girl who cheated on him, he generalized, & said how women are all weak mined like that & cant end the relationship, so they do they do he unfaithful shit first, than end the relationship afterwards. That struck a chord with heather. She did the exact same thing in her 1st marriage, cheated on her husband for like 1 year i think it was, before she came clean & filed for divorce.

That’s exactly what happened. I don’t remember the entire divorce story, but this seems the most reasonable conclusion.

Goddamn… and I thought Dave and Bobby were mic hogs. I appreciate Erik coming on and talking from the heart, but homeboy drowns himself out with that relentless pace and utter refusal to allow anyone else more than five seconds of air time. Endo trying to get all up in Heather’s shit like they have their own spin-off don’t help things, either. This one would’ve been a headache on audio. Still pretty fun, though.

I think we can all agree that these super group ensemble shows kinda fall short of their initial impressions. There’s just too much going on with no real direction when you get so many motormouths into one room. You can read the regret on Dave’s face these past two episodes in those moments where he completely loses the reigns. I know, I know, rich guy problems lol.

    • daveisgay<span class="comment-author-location"> from New York, NY, United States</span>

I think it’s cool if it’s the guest’s first time on the show to have more air time. Especially since it’s been a minute since a new guest was on. The super group thing does get a little messy, but I think for the most part everyone does a decent job of letting each other get their points out. Dave’s been great at hosting the DVDASA shows, but sometimes he should let it freestyle like the KGB days (need Joey back!).

      • Mase<span class="comment-author-location"> from Mississauga, ON, Canada</span>

Guests deserve to be the center of attention, but they should also know their place and let the hosts do their thing. Maybe I’m just more in favor of structure, but Erik got increasingly annoying as he tried to take over the show with his mommy issues, his brewing tension with the cousins, and his unjust scapegoating of Heather. Not one of my favorites, obviously.

        Touché on the Showbizawitz call.

        • daveisgay<span class="comment-author-location"> from New York, NY, United States</span>

I didn’t really pick up on most of the stuff people were bothered by. I think I was just waiting for punchlines. I’m gonna listen to the episode again later and maybe I’ll have a different point of view.

          • Zell’s Secret Lover<span class="comment-author-location"> from United States</span>

Yea I liked Erik. I thought he was more or less just trying to be funny and not a jerk like everyone seems to think. He is a comedian, maybe it’d be wise to not to take him so serious.

          • Patrick<span class="comment-author-location"> from Plano, TX, United States</span>

I think that remembering the fact that Erik is a comedian is paramount to understanding the context or lack thereof here. I feel like Erik came onto DVDASA as if it were a gig and not an opportunity to have fun. Dave mentioning his aversion to live comedy because of the whole “I might get picked on” angle is a perfect example. Erik zeroed in on Heather, which could’ve been rather innocuous and maybe even insightful had there been an actual dialogue between them, but Erik’s forceful personality and playing victim bullshit, combined with the heavy intellectualizing of romantic failure (something Asa pointed out… not always complimentary) to the point of obnoxiousness, I think turned off many viewers/listeners.

Is he funny? Meh. It depends. There’s a marked difference between being funny as a performer and being funny in your regular life. I’ve been to enough comedy clubs to know that. Some people are much funnier on stage than at the bar and vice versa. It’s much easier to be consistent on stage than when you’re not. Asa tried, I think, to point that out (or an approximate idea) and couldn’t get a word in for Erik’s insistence on his own comedic greatness and how that makes him more fuckable or whatever. Frankly, most of what he said has already been said with more tact and humor, and I think I can go the rest of my life without hearing that “for every hot woman out there, there’s a guy tired of fucking her” gem again.

    • JBM101<span class="comment-author-location"> from Dunellen, NJ, United States</span>

LOL, Endo is fucking wild. I saw a picture posted on instagram after the first episode, just before erik came on & she was standing next to Endo, lightly touching his arm. That must of gave him the wrong impression, because he did not back down AT ALL this episode

  • Mase<span class="comment-author-location"> from Mississauga, ON, Canada</span>

There’s some truth to his words, but he also comes across as a whiny bitch and it’s not hard to see why he strikes out so bad with the ladies. If this is our first impression of the guy, imagine him months — or, god forbid, years — into an actual relationship. The only thing worse than a nagging woman is a man who nags like a woman.

    • thelovepolice<span class="comment-author-location"> from Seattle, WA, United States</span>

i find his character on workoholics annoying/frustrating, and somewhat douchey… and then i saw him on bobby’s show on youtube a few months back -and it pretty confirmed that he is like this in real-life.

but seeing him on this episode, he’s seems somewhat normal -and not so annoying. there’s been way worse guests on here (yoshi/shane). at least erik has an opinion, and is not afraid to back that shit up.

    • daveisgay<span class="comment-author-location"> from New York, NY, United States</span>

I think it’s the same feeling with most of these famous guys. When they were younger and they tried hardest to girls, but got rejected all the time since they weren’t traditionally attractive. Then they became famous and now all these girls want to fuck them just because of that. He’s just ranting out years and years of pent up frustration, which I’m sure most guys can relate some aspects to. But yeah, his rant was pretty much the entire episode. Although, it’s kinda understandable since he just got out of a messy relationship.

  • Guest<span class="comment-author-location"> from Seattle, WA, United States</span>

wow, this episode was really deep. erik was droppin some knowledge bombs. great stuff!

  • Bagholder<span class="comment-author-location"> from Australia</span>

Consistently love the show and content but this is like a “devil’s threeway” – too much stuff going on. Someone gets neglected and you have no idea who to focus on.
Asa should get a magic button to silent people’s mics – she brings balance to show that occasionally gets out of control like a blow-bang.

Heather Hotdogs’ resentment towards Erik began before he really started picking on her. In the beginning, when he started talking about how his ex girl cheated on him & didn’t end the relationship straight up, but dragged it out, it struck a chord with heather because she did the exact same thing with her 1st marriage. Wonder if he knew that coming in to the podcast or not. Erik was pretty insightful, & spruced up the convo for this podcast, wasn’t all about anal sex for a change.

  • Al<span class="comment-author-location"> from Ukraine</span>

Stuff a freakin` compressor into your recording chain, would you. The difference in voice volumes makes it quite hard to listen to. Or level the mics on the mixing board more thoroughly – they need adjustments to each guests` voice.

    • daveisgay<span class="comment-author-location"> from New York, NY, United States</span>

Could also do it after the show. It probably might delay the release of the episodes, but I could bear it for some extra post production.

      • Al<span class="comment-author-location"> from Ukraine</span>

Why bother? Plug in a decent hardware compressor/limiter/gate, roll the knobs before the show and then have someone to keep an eye on the mixing console to make adjustments – on the fly, while recording.

        • daveisgay<span class="comment-author-location"> from New York, NY, United States</span>

The studio seems kind of full. Although a compressor might not take up that much space, a mixing board would require a decent sized desk.

Then go digital and use one of myriad plug-ins for whatever software you`re recording with. That`ll get the job done.

Too much fucking screaming! Too many guests trying to yell over each other. I thought Erik Griffin was condescending, bitter, and defensive. When Dave began asking Erik about his love life, he hardly answered any personal questions. He’s just as shallow as he claims women to be. Would he go out with a woman who is as fat and ugly as he is? I doubt it.

Erik Griffin was in control. Why all the hate; great show!

Heather Hot Dog is that you?

Just listened to this episode again. Erik Griffin is a comic. So of course he’s talking loud and in extremes to get his point across, but even the second time around, I was pretty entertained. I vote for having him back on as a guest.

Erik’s performance in this show is what you get after a million rejections (because of your ugly face and annoying personality) This is the monster it created: a whiny, hateful cunt with “theories” that only serve his own shortcomings.

Heather Hotdog looks a lot different than I pictured somehow. Still hot though.

Look Erik is entertaining and adds some intensity to the show. His general direction is to contribute to the show and not detract like Dana and Nick did. He also made me laugh out loud f’realz. Nick and Dana WGOAT – Worst Guests of All Time.

Also amidst all the silliness, Bobby Lee gets props. He occasionally steps up and really hammers out some valid truth points.. Asa and Heather claim that being funny is SO important to them in attractiveness, but I highly doubt the personality and character of their Significant Others put into a Chris Farley body would turn them on. I think in reality when someone is attractive to a female, they tend to make them more funny out of a psychological necessity. How funny could a Spanish guy be if you don’t even speak Spanish?

I don’t speak Spanish or any Asian languages.
But I find Chinese/Vietnamese/Indoensian speaking hilarious. Spanish not quite as much.
