just finished the episode, agree with Baltasar the interview was the best yet, Cusack is a serious dude that kept the ‘artists talking about their craft’ and the ‘yoshi ass-eating stories’ at a perfect balance.

speaking of yoshi they mentioned at the beginning that he would be here for one more week so the ‘split’ doesn’t appear to be acrimonious. i’m guessing yoshi bounced for one of his yearly sex vacations and/or some comedy gigs overseas, so the absence probably won’t be for long. i’m fully expecting a detailed report on the texture and flavor of those afghani whores asses when you get back yosh

I’m kinda thinking that Dave needs to hang out with some East coast Asians. I know plenty of black guys that are married to Asians who aren’t Korean. Filipinas love black guys. • Azurphax from Keene, NH, United States

Thanks for mentioning this. I’m very confused as to the order the episodes were filmed in as well. There’s some scenery we can watch, like the present box or which posters are still on the wall that give clues.

I don’t NEED to know the order, and I like the lack of pop culture references that isolate their placement in time. But the relative order would be nice… maybe. :)

• DVDASA from Los Angeles, CA, United States

All episodes are posted in the chronological order they were recorded. They are intended to be time agnostic. Yes, sometimes they mention a TV show that is on, or a trip they are taking, but one would hope that doesn’t affect your enjoyment of the show. It is difficult to get a group of sensitive artists together in a room, so we keep a few shows in the bank to ensure that we do not miss a broadcast.

Thank you for listening to DVDASA. Namaste.

Heh, I worked for an oil change station for two years where I had my performance measured by unknowing customers doing this rating method. I learned very quickly that 1-2-3-4-5 really means 0-0-0-0-5. A rating of 1-4 only says that the customer was somehow unsatisfied, a rating of five tells you they liked everything. By gracing me with your reply right along with this lovely episode, I am honor bound to give you a 5. Thank you for your timely and informational response. Mentioning an occasional show or trip, a falling poster, or a temporarily out of focus or bumped camera does not have any noticeable effect on my overall enjoyment of watching the show. This time specificity aspect is very common when podcasters or their guests do live shows (comedians, trustworthy kev smith, etc.) because they state their upcoming dates.

Of course I would be lying if I said I was totally enamored with the camera setup, but my opinion on that is already well documented in this and the other episode comments. It’s not that the camera setup is _bad_, because it’s clearly doing a great job at capturing the visages of everyone in the room at a medium distance and the whole group at range. I appreciate the accoutrements as well, and though I may be shooting myself in the foot here, I didn’t watch (just listened to) the episodes that didn’t have them. But still, the camera doesn’t feel excellent, like it should, just great, unlike the rest of the show, which is phenomenal. To whom it may concern, Steve would really like that raise, you should totes hook him up.

SO I haven’t finished the episode yet, but I just wanted to comment on the HAN. One of my best friends is Black Irish. He was a virgin when I met him so i made it my mission to get him laid. He became my best friend during college. Near the end I told him to go to my only female friend’s, who happens to be Korean, birthday. I forced him to go. He meet my classmate who was another Korean woman not the birthday girl. They eventually start dating and she seemed cool. Later down the road she fucking goes crazy. Out of nowhere most of the time. She was a Korean born woman from Soul, but Americanized-ish. He would tell me that out of the blue she would get crazy and fight with him. During the time they dated she would tell me when my freind was out and i was drinking at her apartment that she would kill him if they ever broke up. All this was out of the blue in unrelated conversation. They got married 2 years ago. Up until a year ago she didn’t let him hang out with me because she believed i would bring him around other woman. This was from my best-friend. I haven’t seen him since. So I believe yes the HAN is quite real.

So I came across David on Anthony Bourdain’s show and I decided to check him out more. I’m not someone who is usually inspired by someone or has many artists I look up to. I look at a lot of art and I can tell you the artwork I like and the people who I think are great artists but they don’t really inspire me but David, I can relate with you. You’re an awesome person and artist. Listening to these podcasts put you on my list of artists who I look up to or rather I guess on “that” list of mine because I’m not sure what to really call it, people who I can relate with and have a respect for, I guess to describe it. So when I came across these podcasts, which I really enjoy, I wanted to catch up with all of them before I commented. So yeah here’s my comment. I totally love how you all talk about any and everything, I found I have a thing about just listening to people talk (found this out after just contemplating to myself and shiz, while listening to these podcasts as well as thinking about others I’ve enjoyed). I was actually a little surprised this is listed as a health podcast. It seems more like a lifestyle or way-of-life but I guess they don’t have that category, but when I think about it I guess health is the best way to describe everything you all talk about. The brutal honesty is great. I just want to let you all know that I really support your podcast and I thoroughly enjoy it. It brings so many things to light that I wish more people would talk about, and you all talk about them. It’s amazingly awesome. Thanks

Even though it seems like Yoshi doesn’t say anything on certain broadcast. His mere prescence adds so much to the show. Whenever you guys have guest that are not that famous his subtle touches are note like a seasoned jazz musician playing with old friends. Everyone know the notes but how they interact with one another is special. I hope you guys work it out because this team right now is like a weird dysfunctional family. It would be a shame to just lokc one member up in the basement and pretend he doesn’t exist anymore. Please keep Yoshi or figure out why he bailed and solve the issue. On another episode you guys stated that sometimes he gets to that point where he sabotages his own success before he feels like he doesn’t deserve anything. Maybe whatever is going on is part of that cycle of symptoms? You don’t have to let friends psychological problems manipulate you into rejecting them and giving them what they secretly want. Abandonment. Don’t fall for it Dave force Yoshi to stay and become a successful comedian.

Great show. John Cusack. Seems like all women have the same Han thing you talking bout. It’s a want or insecurity they need taken care of. But each race has a different way of showing it and since your Korean it hits more of nerve. You heard that crap most of your life. So of course stay away. But asian in general are very disciplined as Asa mentioned. So when the women get feelings they show it a certain way. Japanese girls i feel like they internalize it then later just not answering you when you ask. Not saying oh nothing but just not answering at all. that takes some sort of discipline. When they calm down they bring it up. Of course if you keep asking they tell you something but not what sreally up Chinese girls and Korean are close. Korean hold it in discipline again. Then slowly look and why and prepare to let you have it. tactical. Smart asian. Chinese girls hold in it you never know laughing one moment then bezerk. Yell with no intent to actually say anything so angry I think they just see white. Like past black past red. Blinding white. feels like A blur of screams White girls just nag constantly why you do that why you do that why. Are you sure they want control. or equality im as good as you. White people have had control for so long its in the dna. Mexican feel like a mixture of asian and white. Kinda nagging why cant we go somewhere nice to eat.but figure what the hell just deal with it that’s asian discipline. I cant ereally say anything bout blacks. They seem really nice if they don’t have a chip on their shoulder

David, get Yoshi back on the show, you fat faced fuck.

I like how David doesn’t spend 3/4 of the show kissing the guest’s ass because they are famous like someone like Howard Stern does. Cusack seems like an alright guy and he must be if he likes to hang out with a freakshow like Choe.

Han is real. However, I don’t agree with Dave in thinking that it’s genetic–I think it’s more cultural. The way I always understood Han is in the way Koreans are deluded enough to believe that perfection is attainable if you want it bad enough. The guilt comes from the inability to attain that perfection. The ultimate sadness and rage comes from knowing through experience, or just through reflection, that even if perfection or some idea of perfection (i.e., becoming a doctor, etc) is attained that it still won’t make you happy. We see this in the absolute acceptability of plastic surgery in Korea (and amongst Korean Americans), in the ‘cram schools’ that Korean parents send their kids to, in the fact that South Korea has the highest number of suicides in the world. I feel the root of all this is the hyper Confucian mentality (parents are god, kids exist to bring glory to their parents, falling short of this is shameful) that is the primary motivation behind all Koreans raised in traditional Korean households

I know the meaning of Han.
I have been Hanified for the past seven years.
After a glorious lust-filled 2 year courtship in our small NYC apartment my beatuiful young Malaysian (now wife) married, moved to the country and had a child. Then…

The Han set in. This discussion of Han truly struck a chord with me. Do not mistake Bipolar, Borderline or PMS for the Han. Only those who have been victimized (myself) can understand the distinct nature of Han.

Thank you DChoe for bringing this condition into the light of day… RR

I am a white guy that married the Han! It is exactly like you explained! I was tricked. But like you, I eventually saw it for what it was. It is real!
Had to get divorced when I realized it. And now my life went from living hell, to fucking freedom!
Thanks for bringing light to this real issue brother.

The fact that Dave doesn’t want to allow Han in his life is totally Han in itself. Your whole attitude towards Yoshis Han reflects that. All that anger even before the chips-gate affair illustrates it. If Han is a real thing, I don’t think you can avoid the Han that way. It will haunt you. There must be something like the Han against the Han.

Besides that, the tensions between Dave and Yoshi on air (which we could call a fully developed Han) was one of the main elements which gave KGB and also this podcast its singularity and authenticity. I understand that it can be exhausting and annoying at times, but I’m amazed that you both seem to be unaware of this quality you guys create. Yoshi more than Dave though. The fact that people still will listen to Yoshididn’t and DVDASA is always gonna be the result of that weird, angry, emotional, irrational relationship (Han) you guys developed on previous podcasts.

I laughed out loud a lot during this episode. Cusack ain’t that bad either, I kinda dreaded this episode because I thought he was going to be annoying or too quiet, but he was a great guest to have on the show.

Based on the pussy cam, it looked like Asa was really engaged during the episode. (I wonder what Zell’s pussy cam would have revealed?) Notice, when Cusack is guessing which Asian is from where, that Asa compresses her body and nervously starts picking her nails; the pussy cam is next level psychological shit.

Han latency period is 3 months, that’s true–totally true–and those who know, know from experience sadly.

Im korean and I can say that Han is real lol before this show, I never knew that The definition of Han exist. Most koreans, if not all koreans must have Han. Some you can see it and some can hide it very well but when it shows it scary lol. Its like a fucking wild animal. One point that’ll be all sweet looking and you think their harmless and then at one point they’ll snap like some crazy orangutang. This is another reason why I have not dated a korean girl or nor would I think I want to. And i have known this han thing ever since i was like 17 lol i just never knew there was a definition of this and i thought i was the only one that figured this out lol well anyway…ive been hooked on this show since last month and finally caught up now…keep doing your thing. Love the show.

Han exists, dave is spot on. It’s tough to explain the han to someone who doesn’t possess it. Any non-korean that’s had a relationship with a korean (halfies too) can attest to this. It may take a week, month or even years to emerge, but it’s there. Was listening to adam carolla’s podcast and he discussed this trait amongst koreans too. If you’re interested in a korean, run.

Damnit, Asa is so fine. Totally confirms my impression of her kind of star; powerful, intelligent, hot as hell and in control.

I dunno whether it’s a classical conditioning thing due to the context of when I normally see her haha but hearing her voice and seeing the video on the bottom left along side, I totally got hard. While she spoke about completely regular things and I genuinely listened to what she had to say.

Awesome podcast, guys! Always awesome to hear the realest version possible of people you’ve heard of/admire etc and podcasting is the best for that.

Now I get Asa, David AND a little taste of Llyoyd Dobler! Boom!

After listening to Cusack’s views on the US political system, my respect for him has gone up 10 fold. The left versus right in the USA is largely a result of propaganda, backed by corporate interests. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream we’ve bought into. Time to wake up.
